Accessibility and ADA

$33.8 million of the 2020 bond was approved to improve accessibility when entering schools from the parking lot and bus drop-off areas as well as from the hallways to classrooms, cafeterias, gyms and other essential areas. This could include:

• Parking lot striping for accessible stalls
• Accessible walkways and entryways
• ADA door operators at accessible entries
• Handrails at ramps and stairs
• Ramp construction
• Restroom renovations
• Replacing sinks with accessible sinks
• Assistive listening device installation
• Installation of lifts at theater stages
• Installation of accessible door hardware

Work was completed at all schools, except those that were recently modernized. 

The 2017 Bond funding $10 million of accessibility improvements. Schools received improvements such as:

• Entrance accessibility
• Student and staff bathroom accessibility
• Ramps
• Handrails
• Accessibility signage and wayfinding
• Accessible parking
• Elevators and lifts

• Ockley Green Middle School
• Woodlawn K-8
• Jackson Middle School
• Rigler Elementary School

• Rose City Park School

The 2012 Bond funded accessibility work for more than 51 schools, such as

• Entry accessibility through addition of ramps
• Door hardware
• Restroom access
• Classroom sinks
• Drinking fountains
• Electronic door openers
• Elevators and lifts
• Accessible seating
