Project Update March 2026: Design work for the reconstruction of the track and field is underway with construction expected to begin in summer.
In 2024, PPS received approval to develop Jackson Middle School as an athletic hub consistent with the direction established in the PPS 2021 Long Range Facility Plan. Voters approved the first phase of these improvements in the 2025 bond package. Improvements will include a large multi-purpose field with baseball, softball and soccer functions, field lighting, improvements to pedestrian paths, a hitting facility, and accessible parking.
Phase one construction (anticipated): Summer 2026-fall 2026
The first phase of work will include:
- Maintenance work will include reconstruction of the 8-lane track, installation of track and field event equipment and other site improvements.
- Program support improvements will also include installation of a new synthetic turf field that will be striped for football, soccer and lacrosse
Phase two: Schedules are being developed. More schedule details will be shared as they are available.
This next phase will include:
- Construction of a new multi-use synthetic turf field with field lighting striped for baseball, softball and soccer functions.
- Other site upgrades include pedestrian path and accessibility improvements.

The final phase will include:
- Construction of a hitting facility with practice lanes and storage area.

- Accessible parking and landscape improvements
Ida B Wells High School athletics will be relocated to Jackson during the school’s modernization. Reconstruction of the track and field are expected to be complete by the beginning of instruction in fall 2026.
