Project Update April 2026: We will begin the pilot testing the deployment at several schools around the district in mid-April, preparation for an August deployment.
We will refresh student devices: replacing 1:1 take-home devices for high school students, and moving to a charging cart model in K-8 classrooms.
- 1:1 take-home devices: One take-home Chromebook will be supplied to each high school student for in-school and at-home assignments.
- The cart model: A number of rolling carts containing Chromebooks will be available at each K-8 school. Chromebooks will be the same model as provided to high school students.
- Upgraded repair process: When a device breaks, students will immediately receive a permanent replacement device from their school's on hand “spare pool”, eliminating the wait times. Each school’s spare pool will be maintained at about two percent of their total devices.
We are anticipating the replacement of around over 40,000 Chromebooks as part of this effort. Around 600 carts will be deployed in K-8 classrooms.
We have partnered with MicroK12 to procure, distribute, and maintain the devices and carts. This includes comprehensive hands-on service, robust accidental damage protection, and a local repair depot to ensure zero instructional downtime for students.
Project Timeline
April-June 2026: We will begin limited pilot testing of 1:1 device deployments at a high school. The deployment of the cart model is being tested at several middle and elementary schools. Live testing of our distribution and deployment systems will help improve processes for the district-wide rollout.
June 2026: All current devices will be collected from students prior to the end of the school year, including those distributed during pilot testing, with a June 5 deadline.
August 2026: We will distribute refreshed devices district-wide in advance of the start of instruction. Carts will be delivered directly to K-8 classrooms. Take-home devices will be distributed to high school students at the start of the school year.
